Statuesque

Many things could have broken me.
And perhaps, some life events did—if only for a moment.
But I have learned: life’s bending
does not equal a permanent state.
What comes is not always what will remain.

By the grace of God, I stand tall—
statuesque.
Smiling.
Holding space for myself,
just as I hold space for others
to navigate both the thunder and the whispers of this journey.

I stand grateful for community—
family born of blood, and those chosen,
where sharpening one another is like breath,
done without thought, yet essential.
Gratitude fills me for life-giving relationships,
where authenticity leads the way.

I stand focused on the present.
For I’ve learned the folly of yesterday is gone,
and holding on to it
leaves only grief in its wake.
So I give thanks for what rests behind in shadow,
while embracing what is now—
and what is to come.

Today, I turn 52.
In another season, I might have run 5.2 miles
to commemorate these years of blessing.
But though RA has changed my pace,
it has not stolen my joy.
So I will walk—52 minutes, smiling,
standing tall, statuesque,
embracing me.

Parenting is so many things—and truthfully, most days we’re all just figuring it out as we go. My goal isn’t perfection. It’s exposure. I want J to see what’s possible when you follow your passion.

I had the honor of screening, The Invitation with Healing Circle Grief Recovery, a grief group. 💬 It sparked a conversation we don’t have nearly enough: grieving the self while still alive.

Grief isn’t always about losing someone. For those living with autoimmune disease or chronic illness, pieces of your identity, energy, or “ableness” can slip away—again and again. It’s a different kind of loss, one that asks you to continually accept what’s changing while holding space for what still remains.

I used to hide my pain, thinking vulnerability was weakness.

When I say I put pressure on myself, I mean it. No one asked me to drive to Virginia or Massachusetts to capture these stories—I chose to. Because they mattered. Because we matter.

And yet, every mile, every moment filming while managing my own autoimmune challenges, reminded me why this documentary had to exist.
